Could you give us information where you live?

Istanbul is one of the biggest cities in the world with its population of 18 million. It is one of the very few cities which are located in two different continents which are Europe and Asia. This made Istanbul very valuable for centuries. Lots of kingdoms and empires which left the city with lots of great historic places and attractions for tourists later in time, such as; Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Maiden’s Tower, Galata Tower, Taksim Square…

It may be the most beatiful city for some, and you can see for yourself just by visiting once. You will want to come back, and we will be waiting for you you to comeback! Hope to see you!

Calabria is at the toe of the boot, the extreme south of Italy –sourranded by the crystal blue Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas and separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina. The provinces of Calabria are: Catanzaro (regional capital), Reggio Calabria, Cosenza, Crotone and Vibo Valentia and our school is situated in Chiaravalle Centrale (Catanzaro).

We are very lucky because the climate is warm and there are beautiful landscapes, sandy beaches and wild coasts, green hills mingled with the amazing colour of the seas. Calabria is a tourist attraction in particular in summer time. Teacher: Valentina Fera- IIS Ferrari, Italy

I live in Istanbul which is the most known city in Turkey. Some people even think Istanbul is the capital of Turkey, but it’s not. It’s actually known for its beauty and usefulness with the Bosphorus. We get so many spectacular views anywhere we look here. The refreshing air of the sea never gets out of your lungs If you use ships to get to school, like me. I really like to get up to breathe some fresh air. It really makes your tiredness go away.  Here are some photos of The Bosphorus Bridge I’ve taken during my way to school:

You may have known İstanbul by Napoleon Bonaparteis’s quote. He said “If the Earth were a single state, Constantinople would be its capital.” Today, the city’s name is Istanbul, based in Turkey. Which is the place i was born, raised and lived since.
I do like where i live but i can say it’s way too crowded and that may cause some problems like traffic. “So much” traffic. But in the other hand, İstanbul is in two different continents and that gives us the chance to see the sea any time we want. (if we are available, obviously)

So to sum up, I love Istanbul and I think you should all come for a visit .

Yağmur Özdemir – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I live in Kurakhovo. The history of Kurakhovo is very ancient. And the proof of this is the 18 burials of nomads of the XII century, which were found in the mound “Big Grave” during the reconstruction of the Kurakhovskaya TPP, which began in 1969. In the ancient graves were found a dagger, a saber, chain mail, a quiver with arrows, as well as the remains of a horse with a harness.

Kassandreia (Greek: Κασσάνδρεια, Kassándreia; before 1955: Valta (Βάλτα, Válta, meaning “town in the swamps”)) is a town and a community in Chalkidiki, northern Greece. It is the seat of the municipality of Kassandra, in the center of the peninsula. Its population was 2,775 at the 2011 census. It was named after the ancient city Cassandreia, which was located near the village. This ancient city, which had originally been called Potidaea, was enlarged by Cassander who became the ruler of Macedonia for a number of years, and named after him. It is probably at this time that the channel that separates this peninsula from the mainland was dredged, to aid naval activities. The ancient name has now been revived for the modern small town that has been built on the site of the ancient Cassandreia, and it is called ‘New Potidaea’, or in Greek Nea Potidaia.

Bodrum is a tourist resort in Turkey. It is located in western Turkey along the Aegean Sea.It is a Turkish port in Muğla province.Entering bodrum beautiful coves where you can see blue and green together welcome you.You can escape from the busy beaches and racket into a clear sea…Walking in the mandarin scentedbreeze you will see the cool sea if you follow the palm trees.

Bodrum is an inviting, colorful crowd full of surprises, sometimes a humble wiseacre and a loose wise man, sometimes it is an alone crazy, it is freedom, love; Bodrum is sun, sea and after all it is history… In short Bodrum is everything and everybody. Because everybody has it is own Bodrum here. Some live a modest, peaceful and quiet life, some live crazily madly. Bodrum is a White that bears all colors and also internalizes them. It rains different here and also the sun rise different and sets completely different. Wind blows different, sea smells else. Bodrum is the naughtiest, the haughtiest, the most inert, the most beautiful, the most honest and the most frank child of Nature Mother.

Today, Bodrum is one of the most important centers of trade, art and entertainment as it has been since centuries ago…

Bodrum was the city of Halicarnassus in ancient times and an important port at the centre of the old world and thus, modern Bodrum is to Turkey, what Cannes is to the South of France: historic, interesting, relaxing and lively. Holidaymakers can delight in exploring Bodrum’s 15th century Castle of St. Peter, Myndos Gate and the Ancient Theatre. Another must-see in the region are the windmills located on the hills between Bodrum and Gumbet.

An important metropolis by the Roman period, Thessaloniki was the second largest and wealthiest city of the Byzantine Empire. It was conquered by the Ottomans in 1430, and remained an important seaport and multi-ethnic metropolis during the nearly five centuries of Turkish rule. It passed from the Ottoman Empire to Greece on 8 November 1912. It is home to numerous notable Byzantine monuments, including the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as several Roman, Ottoman and Sephardic Jewish structures. Kriopigi is located on the peninsula Kassandra of Halkidiki at a distance of 90 km from Thessaloniki. It is built amphitheatrical on the slopes of the green hills and has a wonderful view towards the Gulf of Kassandra. The area has been inhabited since ancient times and Kriopigi is built in the place of the ancient towns Neapolis and Flegra. The excellent climate, the combination of green mountains and the clear sea (two blue flags award in 1991) together with highly qualified service and hospitality establish Kriopigi as the most distinguished resort of the area.

Aromatic Herbs As Homemade Medicine

What do you think about the use of aromatic herbs as homemade medicine?

A very common flowering plant that is used as a medicinal herb and excist in almost every greek home is Hypericum perforatum, known as St John’s-wort. It has many therapeutic properties. It is a stimulating and highly stimulating anti-inflammatory, healing, sedative, astringent. Ideal for anxiety, depression, emotional disorders of menopause, nerve depletion, stomach ulcer, bronchitis, cough. Diuretic. When taken internally it has a calming effect. It is used against neuralgia, anxiety, tension and similar problems. Externally it is a valuable healing and anti-inflammatory. As a lotion (swab) it speeds up the healing of wounds, bruises, varicose veins, burns, scars, eczema, wounds, insect bites. An effective healer in bruises, soothes sciatica and rheumatic pains. Protects irritated and sensitive skin. Removes scars from burns and wounds.

I am very fond of the use of herbs and plants from nature as a homemade medicine. I strongly believe in the power of nature!

Ioulia Magkou

I’ve never thought of this way of use for aromatic plants until I saw this topic. So I made a little research and found some new aromatic plants and their uses of medicine. But the use of rosemary back in the past really surprised me. Here’s what I’ve found:

“The ancients burned Rosemary traditionally with Juniper berries for ceremonial purposes but also valued it because it was more available to those who couldn’t afford the richer resins. All the ancient doctors; Theophrastus and Dioscorides, Hippocrates and Galen all used Rosemary for various ailments and today we can still use this powerful remedy for various conditions. Rosemary helps with stomach and liver problems as well as spleen disorders and as a restorative herb that relaxes spasms, relieves pain, increases perspiration, and improves digestion and circulation.”

And here’s a representing drawing of a rosemary

Arzum Ertik – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe

I don’t have a clear idea about this topic. But i believe that using aromatic herbs as homemade medicine without the doctor’s knowledge by ourself may not be the greatest idea. But also some of them like peppermint are very useful for a basic cold. So i think it depends on the person.

Yağmur Özdemir | Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School | Teacher : Fatma Boztepe

I think it is a good idea to use aromatic herbs as homemade medicine. The use of sage as a medicine is based on very old times. In the 13th century, everyone was growing sage in their garden. Sage strengthens the donation system and bones. It is good for depression. Also sage prevents alzhemier and forgetfulness.

Göksu Kamış – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School – Teacher : Fatma Boztepe

I think using herbs as homemade medicine without knowledge is wrong.Because it can be harmful if you are allergic to it.But of course they are very useful.Besides in history, people were already using them as medicine.

Veysel Enes Çalışkan/ Teacher Fatma Boztepe/Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

Actually most herbs have not been completely tested to see how well they work or to see if they interact with other herbs, supplements, medicines, or foods. And products added to herbal preparations may also cause interactions. So you should be aware that “natural” does not mean “safe.” So i think it is important to tell your healthcare providers about any herb or dietary supplement you are using.

Deniz Ölmez/ Teacher Fatma Boztepe / Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I think that aromatic herbs are very soothing as a drink or essence but making medicine is very different thing . i believe that it is necessary to have the proficiency to make medicine. Otherwise it can be very dangerous.

Teacher Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I think that’s a good idea. Some of the aromatic plants are very useful. We can be healthy by using herbs instead of using medicines. But firstly, we need to be examined for our problems.

Esma Delice-Etiler Anatolian High SchoolTeacher Arzu Çalık Seydim

Herbal medicine is can be good for our health if we have enough information about what we do. Lots of people, especially old ones, have wrong information about herbs. İf we get more knowled about herbs and deseases, after seeing a doctor, we can uses herbs to get healthier.

Mete Demiray-Teacher Fatma Boztepe-Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I think that the use the Armatic herbs ,is better than medicines because herbs are always natural things.

Rosario Macrina

I think using aromatic herbs as homemade medicine is great. Some of aromatic plants are helpful and it is more natural.

Esma Bayram/Arzu Seydim/Etiler Anatolian High School

I think using aromatic herbs as homemade medicine is beneficial and natural. But using herbs as homemade medicine without knowledge is very dangerous.
Otherwise it may have bad results.
We should not attempt to do so without asking a person who knows.

Elif Savaş/Etiler Anatolian High School/Teacher.Arzu Çalık Seydim

Some aromatic herbs have digestive and curative effects in our body.

The your impact in our body is not very elevated; for this reason sometimes they are used without the consensus of the doctor except in case of allergies😩😩

IIS “ENZO FERRARI”, Perruccio Maria Teresa

I think use of aromatic herbs as hommade medicine is better than to take a medicine. I can give you an example of Linden. Our mothers still boil Linden when we have a mild cold or flu, or when we have a slight sore throat. I think it feels good when I squeeze a little honey and a little lemon out of the lime.

Bahar Cengizoğlu /Etiler Anatolian High School /Teacher :Arzu Çalık Seydim

They are very useful for the cure of illnesses. We dont need to use medicines, drugs for all type of problems..We can better also by using aromatic herbs. For example a sage-linden-ginger- tea for cold..a rosemary tea for sore throat..fennel for stomach ache.Anyway people  used to use these herbs for illnesses in ancient times because drugs didnt exist in those times.

Asude Örnekler-Metem Uğural-Gülnaz Tepe-Ulaş Arda Köylü-Ege Özer-Büşra Karakaya    /   BODRUM MTAL

I think it is a good idea to use aromatic herbs as homemade medicine. Some of the aromatic plants are very useful. But using herbs as homemade medicine without knowledge is very dangerous. They are very useful for the cure of illnesses.

Azra Gözler / Etiler Anatolian High School /Teacher: Arzu Çalık Seydim

Aromatic herbs are natural products. I think that medicine made from these natural products are good for our body health. It can be preferred because it is delicious, healthy and more affordable . I think aromatic plants are reliable.

Ahmet Gökhan Erkan / Etiler Anatolian High School/Teacher : Arzu Çalık Seydim

I think usage of aromatic herbs as a homemade medicine is healthier than using normal medicine, and thats because normal medicine may have side effects that can change person to person.

Stay Home, Be Safe

Dear friends and students. We all have been home for days. I know it is not easy to live this way but we have to handle with difficulties. I think if we share our feelings and help each other things become easier. So, could you share what you feel?

Teacher: Fatma Boztepe

I really miss socializing, seeing my friends, going out and out. When I couldn’t do these, I understood how important they are to us and that they have a big place in our lives. In order to get through this situation in the best way, we have to fold a little. In order not to endanger the lives of other people, our family and ourselves, we have to endure a little. I am optimistic and try to spend this time in a useful way. I spend time with my family, read books, watch movies. No matter how much I miss going out, I try to make the interior beautiful during this time. I hope we get through it in a short time and everyone will be safe.

Deniz Ölmez-Teacher: Fatma Boztepe- Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I never thought i would miss school but here i am missing everything about school. I miss my friends and teachers. I miss going out and walking around. But i try to stay positive. I’m sure we can overcome this situation. To spend time i study and draw a lot of course like every other kid my age i play games too. Never lose your hope and be safe. Dont forget to wash your hands.

Ayda Özder-Teacher: Fatma Boztepe -Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

As a person who loves to just wander around, this quarantine really affected my mentality. Besides that, I really miss my friends and even the environment with people around. I didn’t know how much just people talking around me affected my life. To be honest I miss having people around me. But I understand why we should stay at home so I think I can handle it. I hope you can too!

Arzum Ertik-Teacher: Fatma Boztepe-Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

We understand the value of what we have these days, this is an opportunity for us. I miss my friends, my school and above all our beautiful world. The streets are empty these days, it feels a little bad. We are in a great struggle, we take precautions for our health and the health of our environment and continue our lives. I believe that we will relax after hard times. I believe everything will be fine and I say this to myself every time. I spend time with my family by staying at home, I take care of myself and often read books. I keep my metal health strong. Believe that everything will be fine and take care of your health, don’t lose hope!

Esma DeliceTeacher:Arzu Çalık SeydimEtiler Anatolian High School

I am bored at times. I am trying a lot of things to find a solution. But I know that all of them will pass. I remind myself that happy days are waiting for us and all we have to do is show a little patience.

Bahar Cengizoğlu /Etiler Anatolian High School /Teacher Arzu Çalık Seydim

During this time, I’m isolating myself. I take care of my personal hygiene. We usually do shopping monthly for our needs . We often air the room. I’m staying home. So I both protect my health and keep going education. There’s a lot of activity we can do. We can read books, write something, watch movies, documentaries and series, listen to songs we’ve never heard. Actually, there’s no limit to what we can do. Life can really fit home. So stay home and be safe. Because like Bob Marley’s said “Don’t worry about a thing, ’cause every little things gonna be alright”.

Ahmet Gökhan Erkan / Etiler Anatolian High School -Teacher : Arzu Çalık Seydim

If you want this situation to end quickly; we must stay at home in order not to endanger our environment and ourselves. Only in this way we can stop this virus from progressing rapidly. We are all so scared but measure saves lives. Take precaution please. Stay home to get so many things we miss. Thank you very much all our healthcare professionals.

Azra Gözler / Etiler Anatolian High School-Teacher: Arzu Çalık Seydim

I never thought I would miss my school but now I miss my school very much, I miss my friends, my teachers. I think we will get through these times. But there are things we need to do spend these times like reading, doing sports, cooking. So we should protect ourselves at home and we should not go out. So other people’s lives will be healthier . I know we are bored but we have to stay at home . And i believe that these times will be end . Take care of your health.

Esma Bayram/ Etiler Anatolian High School-Teacher: Arzu Çalık Seydim

I really miss my friends and teachers and I can’t wait to meet again. I try to spend more time with my family and try to isolate myself.

At such times, we should support each other and we should not be pessimistic. We must be isolated and safe at home to protect ourselves. We can try activities to avoid getting bored at home. Like reading books, watching movies or series, or drawing.

Elif Savaş/ Etiler Anatolian High SchoolTeacher: Arzu Çalık Seydim

We are doing home teaching and it is very sad because we can’t see our teachers and classmates. I attend the last year and we have the final exam “esame di stato/maturità” but we have to do it from home…it won’t be the same…

It is not an easy period because there is the coronavirus emergency. We are studying at home but it is not the same as real school. There is lockdown and we can’t go out…

Sestito Francesca- IIS FERRARI, ITALY Teacher Valentina Fera

Hello, covid-19 has completely changed our lives… schools are closed and maybe they will open again on september. We are studying at home with distance learning and we can’t see our friends, teachers, relatives… we can’t celebrate borthdays or go out except to buy food or medicines. I hope it will end soon.

Dear colleagues and dear students:

I hope you all are well and healthy. We are mostly in our homes, truely seperated from what was normal as we pitch in to stop the spread of coronavirus across Turkey. It’s not easy. Life events are going to continue. Just very differently than we want them to be.  I believe that our good days will come. We all need to feel happy while we are at home. We feel thankfully and  we need to see the advantages of being at home. We should share some quality time with our families.

Love you all,

Teacher Arzu ÇALIK SEYDİMEtiler Anatolian High School

I experienced just how difficult it was to stay at home without going out. I understood how important socializing was by standing at home. I realized that the time we spent with our friends was valuable.Staying home taught us how valuable our health is.

I really feel bored … I miss my friends … the walks ..the coffees and even the school ..but I feel healthy..I do gymnastics ..I go for a run..I read..I do my nails … and I try to spend my time creatively … I think that all this will end and we will be able to do all the things that we did not appreciate for so long

Evi Kamperi

I’m bored at home … but I try to see them positively … I think all this had to be done to appreciate that we had so much time and we took it for granted … I miss my friends … the walks ..the school but I think it will all end quickly

We think to ourselves that quarantine is not that good and all but on the contrary you have a lot of things to do. Firstly and most importantly you appreciate everything you didn’t before such as hanging out and get to see your friends everyday. Secondly you have plenty of time to spend with yourself. For example I started to work out and study more. You can also spent quality time with your family. Also you can be very creative and productive. For instance my brother and I dance almost everyday and have a lot of fun.

Although at first I felt that it would be a terrible period, as days went by, I found out that it is a wonderful chance to discover the inner part of myself (meditation, yoga). I am together with my family for many hours and this is good way to improve our relations. We try to keep helathy by eating healthy and doing excersice! Fortunately, we I live near nature and I go for cycling into a small forest. We have to keep faith that we will retairn to normal conditions soon. Be positive and try to strengthen your immune system.

Living Is Learning

Hi Guys,

We have been away from our normal life for a long time, we are all at home. During the quarantine, each of us has learned new things and discovered our skills.

For example; I learned baking bread 🙂 I realized that life is realy very beautiful.

I see  how beautiful world we live in.

And you, what did you learn about life, yourself, world?…

Teacher: Fatma Boztepe

Being in quarantine might seems like boring. (Well it actually is.) But in the other hand we finally have the time to do the things that we used to pushing away because we had no time. This is the time to learn new things and have new hobbies. And maybe we can bring some joy to our quarantined-dull-lifes.

So I’ve been trying to learn knitting for couple days. I am not good at all but it is challenging to learn and at least i can have some difference in my life.

Yağmur Özdemir – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

I believe these times are the best times to explore your new interests. It’s not a new thing for me but I’ve been trying new techniques with my paints. Besides that, I started learning new dessert recipes too. Finding things to do in your spare time is harder than I thought to be honest 🙂

Arzum Ertik – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

Actually being at home is not a problem for me.Because i am a homebody and going outside is not my necessary. Even though i love staying at home, after a while there’s nothing to do.

Then,i decided to improve my music skills.Everyday i am practicing guitar. Also i am into philosophy and because of that i read some books and researching about philosophy. It is both fun and useful.

I feel like I spend my times productively and it makes me happy

İrem Akşun – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

To be honest, I had an enthusiasm and desire to find new activities for myself at the beginning of the quarantine. I was doing sports, I was baking bread with my family, I was doing jigsaw, but after a while I lost this request because I am someone who does not like being at home and is fond of outside. So that I hope that this disease will disappear as soon as possible and we will return to our normal life. :’)

Deniz Ölmez – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

Actually ı’m pretty comfortable in home. All day is mine and i can spent it for reading books, watching films and series, exploring new hobbies. Only minuses are ı’m far away with my friends and nature. But i know this is a temporary station. I hope this pandemic will be cured all around the globe. Please stay home for everyone.

Mete Demiray – Teacher: Fatma Boztepe – Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

Actually I am happy and peaceful at home. I’ am not stressed and I can spend my time for myself. I read books, watch films and take up new hobbies. It is good to be at home and away from stress but I miss to go outside too. I hope this pandemic will end soon.

Veysel Enes Çalışkan- Teacher: Fatma Boztepe- Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School

Well at first I was really frustrated with the quarantine, since my kids (7 and 9 years old) woyuld be also at home and it would  be difficult for me to be free to do things. As days went by we made a schedule that was convenient for the famiy. We started reading more books, paint more, playing games, making constructions with plain things and recycling. I personally started yoga lessons on Youtube, I read books on phsycology, I changed my diet (based on vegan) and learned new recipes. I am grateful for this period because I came closer to myself!

Staying home is nice…you have time for yourself…you can do things that you couldn’t do before…i read a lot in quarantine…i talked to my friends…i went out for a run and i understood that it’s not bad and the house you lear a lot of things …let’s just say i learned to cook…

Evi Kamperi

I think I learnt nothing this period!

Andreas Ampelas

I learned a lot of new things such as like new recipes, new songs to play with my guitar and watch a lot of movies and shows…

These times are great for finding new hobbies. I discovered that drawing makes me happy. I’m learning new food and dessert recipes. I stay healthy by doing sport.

Staying at home was a very difficult process for me as for everyone. But these days I learned some new recipes, discovered new songs and helped my family with housework. I hope these days will soon be over and we will return to our normal lives.

These times are great for finding new hobbies. I discovered that drawing makes me happy. I’m learning new food and dessert recipes. I stay healthy by doing sport.

Azra Gözler -Teacher: Arzu Çalık Seydim -Etiler Anatolian High School

I observed the world and people during the quarantine process. I read books, exercised for my health, I tried to learn to play guitar.  This was a little difficult, I had difficulty because my fingers were a little short and I’m still in the beginning. I tried cooking new dishes and desserts. I made delicious meals and had a good time with my family. Meanwhile, I started growing strawberries on the balcony. I planted it in a small flowerpot, today it opened its first flower. It was pleasant and nice to try new things and observe myself and my environment in this process.

I think this period is important for exploring and developing ourselves. That’s why I read books every day. I did sports and through this project, I met the kitchen. There are so many things we can do. I love to draw, but I couldn’t find the time to draw and now I’m drawing again.

Ahmet Gökhan Erkan -Teacher:Arzu Çalık Seydim-Etiler Anatolian High School

Unfortunately, it can be annoying to be at home every day . But I try to differentiate the days by experiencing new things. I improved my painting skills and reading skills so I’m very happy about it.

I love plants. In this project, we researched and learned the usage areas of aromatic plants. I love learning about herbs. We often support each other with our teammates and close each other. We attended the events with them and learned how to make different plants and flower bouquets. In addition, eTwinning had a huge family because it would not have been just a place for us to share what we had learned, but it also taught us to take responsibility for certain dates as there are things we have to do and upload. Apart from these, we learned the usage of different Web 2 tools. All of them became more beautiful than each other. Our family, my teacher and school also supported us. We took videos with them and added subtitles and further improved our English. When we have difficulties, my teammates and my teacher always helped me. We did a real team work. I am very happy to be in this project

We all stay at home since 13 th of march in İstanbul. It is not a easy for us but I am trying to turn this situation like a chance. I am trying to learn how to play piano. Also I am trying to cook different coltures foods. I am happy that I have a lot of time to make some activities with my son.
